Binghamton University seeks applicants for a full-time, tenure-track Assistant Professor position in the Theatre Department's burgeoning musical theatre BFA program. The ideal candidate will have achieved distinction as a voice teacher, vocal pedagogue, and/or musical theatre performer/teaching artist, and will continue their creative research as they work towards tenure and promotion.
The ideal candidate will be an artist and/or scholar whose teaching, creative activity, and professional experience will contribute to the diversity, equity, access, and inclusivity goals of the Department of Theatre and seek to address questions of interest to historically under-represented or underserved communities. Their research agenda should support and enhance the Department's offerings by increasing its range, depth, and diversity of curriculum, with the goal of leading to successful tenure.
Required Qualities:
* Master's degree (MM, MVP, MFA, MA) or other relevant advanced degree, awarded by August 18, 2025
* Knowledge in and demonstrated application of contemporary vocal science research, vocal technique, and vocal pedagogy
* Knowledge of current trends in musical theatre and musical theatre-adjacent performance styles, techniques, and performance practices
* Demonstrated success teaching college students and/or professional performers
* Experience teaching singing in the diverse repertoire and styles common in contemporary musical theatre (such as pop, rock, classical, soul, jazz, funk, R&B, hip-hop, rap, country, etc.)
