The Department of Music at Coastal Carolina University invites applications for an Assistant Professor of Music (Choral/Applied Voice). This is a full-time, nine-month, tenure-track appointment beginning in August 2025.
We seek an accomplished, collaborative, and forward-thinking choral conductor and applied voice teacher ready to contribute to our expanding undergraduate choral, music education, and voice programs. The successful candidate will have (a) a commitment to building and supporting sustainable and functional voice technique in choral ensembles and voice lessons; (b) a deep understanding of and dedication to inclusive and diverse programming, vocal styles, and pedagogy; (c) demonstrated knowledge and skills in choral and voice pedagogy; (d) a passion for recruiting and mentoring student singers and choral music educators from a variety of backgrounds, experiences, majors, and skill levels; and (e) an active professional life in scholarly/creative activity related to choral performance and/or pedagogy.
The primary responsibilities of this position will include choral conducting and ensemble direction; coordinating and visionary planning of all aspects of the choral program; and teaching secondary choral music education courses (e.g., Choral Methods, Choral Diction, Choral Conducting, Practicum/Internship Supervision). This position will secondarily teach applied voice lessons and lead a weekly studio class, which may include preparing students for degree capstone experiences (recitals, projects, etc.). Additional duties may include undergraduate music coursework based on the candidate’s interest and expertise. The successful candidate will provide advisement and mentorship to students; participate in departmental, college, and university governance; assist with the recruitment and retention of students; and engage in relevant professional service to the discipline.
Applicants must have earned a doctoral degree in choral conducting, choral pedagogy, music education, or a related field. A.B.D. candidates with a clear plan to complete their degree by August 2025 are also welcome to apply. University and/or public school teaching experience required. Experience directing contemporary voice ensembles (e.g., a cappella, gospel, pop) preferred.
