City Lyric Opera

Each Fall, NYC-based artists are encouraged to send their programming ideas to be produced in CLO’s following season. Submissions are reviewed by a panel and selected based on the following criteria:

- Scope: Does the scope of the project fit within the Organization’s knowledge base, resources, and budget?

- Accessibility: Is the project accessible for audience members who have not experienced opera or classical music?

- Theme: Does the project’s content or subject matter align with City Lyric Opera’s mission and artistic vision for each season’s programming?

- Musicianship: Does the project showcase the artist’s talent to the best of their abilities?

- Diversity: Does the project reflect the greater NYC community and its inhabitants?

First-round selections meet with the audition panel via video chat to receive feedback and facilitate conversation before making the final selections. City Lyric Opera typically selects between 8 and 10 submissions per season.

Submission Timeline:

- November 1: First Round Selections notified

- November 2024 - Interviews

- December 15: Final Selections notified

Selected submissions will be fiscally sponsored by City Lyric Opera and have access to the CLO inventory, marketing, ticketing platform, event support, and production staff. Submissions not selected for the 25-26 season may also be considered for future programming.
