Description

Baker University’s Department of Music and Theatre in the College of Arts and Sciences invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track position as Director of Choral Activities, at the rank of Assistant Professor of Music. Applicants must have an energetic, engaging personality with high-caliber musical skills and demonstrated ability to recruit and lead a strong choral program. The position requires a teaching load equivalent of 12 classroom contact hours per semester which includes directing up to three choirs, teaching choral music education courses, directing a biennial musical theatre production, and teaching in the College’s general education program. Performances typically include a fall concert, one or two Christmas Vespers performances, a spring concert, and assorted shorter performances (area church services, campus Chapel services, and various university events/functions).

Although teaching is the primary focus, successful candidates will also be expected to participate in the academic advising of students, to serve on university committees, and to commit to continued professional development (for which funding is available on an annual basis).

This position is scheduled to begin in August 2025.

Requirements

Master’s degree (doctorate preferred). Prior teaching experience in the secondary school setting and prior college teaching experience are strongly preferred. A commitment to undergraduate student engagement is essential. Applicants should also have the ability and desire to work collaboratively with department colleagues to continually enhance the music program and to sustain a long tradition of choral excellence.

Apply on website.

Review of applications will begin immediately and continue until the position is filled.
