Zum Haydn Niederösterreich

The two world-class composer brothers, Joseph and Michael Haydn , were born in the thatched farmhouse in Rohrau , now known as the Haydn Memorial and Museum , spent their childhood in this region of Lower Austria, today's district of Bruck an der Leitha , and are among the most prominent sons of the state.

In connection with the renovation and reopening of the Haydn Birthplace on September 14, 2017, the 280th birthday of Michael Haydn, the “Haydn Region of Lower Austria” is being created in the area around Rohrau, which is of musical and cultural historical significance, a region with the concrete and ambitious goal of giving due consideration to the legacy of the Haydn brothers in the state of Lower Austria and presenting and honoring it accordingly.

The project's main aim is to preserve the musical legacy of Joseph and Michael Haydn . This will be done in particular by holding concerts and other artistic events, by focusing on the areas of music education and folk culture, and by the scientific component in cooperation with national and international research institutions.
