Description

The first mentions of attempts to create a professional symphony orchestra in Krakow come from the end of the 18th century. However, the Symphony Orchestra - with the status of a professional ensemble under the direction of Feliks Nowowiejski - was established only in 1909 and operated until September 1939. During its thirty-year existence, it was an agency of the Polish Musicians' Trade Union in Krakow, associating professional musicians working in various venues, cafes and silent cinemas. The aim of the union was to defend the living interests of the associated musicians, to care for the artistic level of their production and to promote music culture in society by organizing symphonic concerts.
