The large collectives such as orchestra and choir are played live from an external rehearsal room in the performances of the ensemble and the audience. So that you can hear the orchestra in the hall, the sound of each instrument is picked up in the rehearsal room with at least one microphone and transmitted to the auditorium of the opera house. One of the most modern surround sound systems in the world is installed there, which can play any tone at any point via countless loudspeakers. The surround sound system was installed a few years ago, but new lines had to be drawn for the live broadcast, highly complex audio and video interfaces had to be installed and configured and, of course, mixers, monitors, microphones, cameras and loudspeakers had to be provided.
It is no small matter if the choir cannot stand on stage, if the soloists have to keep their distance and the orchestra is not allowed to sit in the ditch. But for all of us it means: Opera and ballet performances can take place!
