Dr. David Guzman has seamlessly blended his passions for performance, education, and research in Latin American music. As an opera singer and recitalist, he is deeply committed to reviving and sharing the beauty of forgotten Latin American art songs. His recent performances include a recital at the Lyceum Mozartiano de La Habana in Cuba, the tenor soloist in Beethoven’s 9th Symphony with the Brown University Orchestra, and a recital of Colombian Andean music with Trio Palos y Cuerdas at Boston University. He has also portrayed Il Duca in Verdi’s Rigoletto with La Fundación Aria y Memoria in Cali, Colombia, and performed Carmina Burana with both the Minot Symphony Association and the Hartford Symphony.
Dr. Guzman’s operatic repertoire is rich and varied, with standout roles such as the Prince in Rossini’s La Cenerentola and Il Duca in Verdi’s Rigoletto with Opera Tampa, as well as Rafael in Foglia/Martinez's To Cross the Face of the Moon with Arizona Opera. His talent has taken him to prestigious stages, including Lyric Opera of San Diego, Lyric Opera of Chicago, Houston Grand Opera, and the Theatre du Châtelet in Paris, among others.
His dedication to Latin American music is also reflected in his recordings, including the 2023 album A mis viejos with El Yeite Records, the 2017 Latin-American Art Songs album, and the 2011 Cruzar la Cara de la Luna/To Cross the Face of the Moon with Houston Grand Opera, released by Albany Records.
Dr. Guzman holds a B.A. in Music Education from Universidad Pedagógica Nacional de Colombia, an M.M. in Voice Performance from Texas Christian University, and a D.M.A. in Voice Performance from SUNY at Stony Brook. Since 2020, he has been sharing his expertise and passion for music as an Assistant Professor of Music - Voice at Boston University.
