Bio

Sahar Hassan, mezzo soprano

Egyptian American mezzo-soprano is a is a frequent oratorio and chamber soloist in the Twin Cities and is the artistic director of Ladyslipper Ensemble (ladyslipperensemble.org), with whom she maintains a busy performance schedule.

Most recently, she performed in the ensemble with Mill City Opera and Out of the Box Opera and was cast as Venus in Bold North Baroque Opera’s La Dafne. In March of 2022, she will perform the role of Bianca in Benjamin Britten’s “The Rape of Lucretia” with An Opera Theatre. She earned her Master of Music from the New England Conservatory of music in Boston, where she was co-founder and soloist of Ensemble Rossignol for five years. Later, she went on to continue her studies at the Hochschule für Musik in München, Germany and the Conservatoire de Versailles, France.

Sahar has served on the faculties of New England Conservatory’s Division of Preparatory and Continuing Education, Wellesley College, Phillips Exeter Academy, Salve Regina University, College of St. Benedict/St. John’s University, and McNally Smith College of Music. as well as the Wellesley Composers’ Conference, as a chamber music coach.

In 2017 Sahar was the a recipient of an Artist Initiative grant made possible by the voters of Minnesota through a grant from the Minnesota State Arts Board, thanks to a legislative appropriation by the Minnesota State Legislature; and by a grant from the National Endowment for the Arts. Her CD “The World’s Highway” was released in March of 2019.

She is a Certified Alexander Teacher and is a faculty assistant at the Minnesota Center for the Alexander Technique.
