For the past 17 years, John Haas has successfully prepared students for a life of healthy singing by guiding singers to moments of self-discovery using diverse teaching and performance literature, ranging from musical theatre and the Great American Songbook, to rock, folk, and classical repertoire. He incorporates his advanced knowledge of vocal technique and performance literature to demystify key components of healthy vocal production, including sustainable respiration, phonation, and resonance for the musical theater and classical voice.

John holds a Master's Degree in Vocal Performance from the Northwestern Bienen School of Music and maintains an active private voice studio/performing career. As an Assistant Professor of Instruction in Music Theatre and Academic Advisor in the Department of Theatre at Northwestern University, John is a member of the Music Theatre Voice Faculty and teaches voice lessons for the Music Theatre Certificate Program and the MFA in Acting Program. His research focuses on vocal music technique and pedagogy, music theatre history, and music theatre repertoire. Northwestern’s ever-expanding Music Theatre Repertoire courses are a result of his expertise in the music of Stephen Sondheim and Rodgers & Hammerstein. Among other performance credits, he was recently a featured performer in the first English-translated concert reading of the Boublil and Schönberg musical, La Revolution Française. John is an active member of the National Association of Teachers of Singing.
