Maestro James Koenig has sung in opera, concert, recital, and musical theater venues around the United States and in Europe in Finland, Germany, and Italy. As a teacher he has, in addition to his private studio, done master classes at various colleges and universities, taught at Northwestern University, and at the Bel Canto Institute and Atelier Apulia in Italy. With bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Northwestern University he went on to study with American basso Giorgio Tozzi, and worked with the great Italian Baritone Tito Gobbi in Italy. Further studies included work with Phyllis Curtin and Birgit Nilsson as well as various conductors. He studied conducting and score analysis with Margaret Hillis of the Chicago Symphony. He is a singing teacher, writer, arts advocate, and has been a presenter for the L.A. Philharmonic “Up-Beat Live” pre-concert lecture series and written for Odyssey Classical Music Publications in the U.K.. His goal as a skilled teacher is to help individuals at various levels fulfill their gifts and prepare for performance. Students have received scholarships to various schools
