Teacher

Sonya is a Coloratura Soprano, Voice Instructor, Musicologist, and Director. She has been teaching Voice and Piano for 30+ years as well as Adjunct University teaching in Sight Singing, Ear Training, and Music History. She holds several Voice Performance Degrees including a doctoral degree specializing in Voice Performance and Pedagogy. She has directed 40+ Musicals and Operas and remains a Board Member for Teen Edge Musical Theatre Troupe. Her Performance career includes lead roles in operas as Queen of the Night, Cunegonde, Zerlina, Adele and in Musical Theatre as Laurie in Oklahoma, Anna in The King and I, Christine in The Phantom of the Opera, and most recently Carlotta in the International Worx production of The Phantom of the Opera. Sonya has performed with various artists throughout her career including Dolly Parton, Reba McEntire and Amy Grant. She remains a popular Voice Technician for NYC performers and singers interested in professional careers and has close connections to various composers including Andrew Lloyd Webber and Jason Robert Brown. She is presently working on her 2nd book "Healthy Singing for the Musical Theatre Performer."
