Dr. Cheryl Cellon Lindquist is a pianist, collaborator, coach, and pedagogue. After most recently serving as the Music Director of Opera Studies at Texas State University, she has relocated to the Dallas/Ft Worth area.
Renowned as a collaborative artist and soloist, Dr. Lindquist has performed with an array of singers, instrumentalists, choirs, chamber ensembles, and symphony orchestras throughout the United States and Europe. In addition, she maintains a private vocal coaching studio that includes numerous opera singers with both professional companies and apprentice programs, university faculty and students, chamber musicians, and amateurs. Known for her versatility across a variety of musical styles and her sensitive artistry, she has been called an “excellent collaborator” and an “outstanding soloist with intricate passagework.”
To promote and revitalize the importance of Art Song, Dr. Lindquist co-founded the Art Song Center for Poets and Musicians artsongisalive.org in 2019 with pianist, scholar and author, Ruth C. Friedberg, and continues to serve as its Artistic and Executive Director. As an advocate for music of living composers, she is also an original founding member of the new music repertory group, CMASH, and collaborates frequently with co-founder and Artistic Director, Ann Moss. As a champion of new music, she has worked with composers Jake Heggie, John Harbison, Tobias Picker, and Michael Ching.
Dr. Lindquist frequently receives invitations to give master classes, lectures and performances in topics related to vocal literature, with a particular emphasis on American Art Song and French repertoire and has been selected to collaborate in performances for the South Texas College Music Society Conference, National Association of Composers/USA, College Music Society South Regional Conference, National Opera Association Conference, and the Song Collaborators Consortia Festival. Professional memberships include National Association of Teachers of Singing, College Music Society, and National Opera Association. She is also part of the development team for the newly formed International Keyboard Collaborative Arts Society (IKCAS), the first international professional association devoted exclusively to collaborative piano.
Dr. Lindquist has worked with several professional opera companies and notable summer Young Artist Programs to include Opera San Antonio, Austin Lyric Opera, and Alamo City Opera, American Institute of Musical Studies (AIMS), Songfest, Académie Internationale d’Été de Nice, Opera Steamboat (formerly Emerald City Opera), and most recently, she has served as vocal coach for the Taos Opera Institute in Taos, New Mexico. Previous academic appointments include positions at Southern Methodist University, the University of Texas at San Antonio, the University of the Incarnate Word, the University of Texas Pan-American, the University of North Carolina-Pembroke, and the University of Florida.
Dr. Lindquist earned her D.M.A. and M.M. degrees in Piano Performance, with an emphasis in Chamber Music, Vocal Coaching and Accompanying from the Florida State University. She earned an M.M. in Conducting from the University of Florida.
