Bahamian-born soprano, Dara Rahming has been gracing the concert and operatic stage for over twenty-five years. Her career has afforded her the opportunity to not only perform with several major opera companies throughout the United States but also sing leading and supporting roles in some of the greatest opera houses in Europe and Asia. Highlights of her career include a Washington National Opera debut singing, on separate nights, the roles of Lily and Serena in the company’s first ever production of the Gershwin masterpiece, “Porgy and Bess”, at the Kennedy Center. She has also had the privilege of helping create and premiering the role of Sylvie Davenport in Dan Shore’s opera “Freedom Ride” which is inspired by civil rights activists who risked their lives to desegregate interstate travel in 1961. The sold-out opera premiered at the Chicago Opera Theater in February 2020, directed by Tazwell Thompson and conducted by Lidiya Yankovskaya.
After witnessing the devastation of Hurricane Katrina in the summer of 2005, Ms. Rahming began a Benefit Recital Series which raised thousands of dollars for her alma mater, Xavier University located in the heart of New Orleans. 100% of the proceeds went to the university and for nine years, she proudly served her alma mater as Professor of Voice and Director of Opera Workshop. Ms. Rahming currently maintains a busy teaching and performance schedule working with students of all ages and capabilities, spreading the gift of music.
