Description

The LSU School of Music offers one of the nation’s most comprehensive music programs and serves as a cultural center for the state of Louisiana. Our students are immersed in a tight-knit community of nearly 400 music majors and learn from acclaimed, faculty, as well as a world-renowned network of visiting artists who are innovators in their fields. Our school offers a variety of choral ensembles and vocal performance opportunities, and sponsors over 300 recitals, concerts, operas, and lectures each academic year.

At the graduate level, degrees offered include the PhD (with concentrations in composition, experimental music & digital media, music education, musicology, and music theory), DMA (with concentrations in choral conducting, performance, orchestral conducting, and wind conducting), and the Master of Music. At the undergraduate level, degrees offered include the Bachelor of Music, Bachelor of Music Education and Bachelor of Arts in Music.

The LSU School of Music has a rich history and tradition of musical excellence in academic and performance pursuits. Recently celebrating its centennial anniversary, the School of Music was one of the first music programs to be accredited by the National Association of Schools of Music in 1932. The Turner-Fischer Center for Opera at LSU, one of the oldest university programs of its kind in the United States, produces exceptional singers who sing on world opera stages such as the Metropolitan Opera, La Scala, Lyric Opera of Chicago, San Francisco Opera, Houston Grand Opera, and New York City Opera.
