Description

The Gärtnerplatztheater was opened in Munich in 1865. Soon it also became a house for the operetta. State director Josef E. Köpplinger has been in charge of the house since 2012 and, together with his team, has profiled the Gärtnerplatztheater as a European opera house. In addition to numerous world premieres in all genres, bel canto and drama operas as well as operettas have had a strong revitalizing profile.

With the internationally unique orientation of the focus on opera and operetta, the opera studio of the Gärtnerplatztheater has a unique selling point. It is aimed at young singers with a university degree (or equivalent) in the field of singing. A total of four singers are specifically prepared for their stage careers in singing, role design, interpretation, speech and movement in all areas at the house over a period of two years.

In addition to the four singers, the studio also has a pianist who goes through the same application process and is funded as part of the program.

The studio members receive an intensive mentoring program and support from a highly qualified team, master classes with high-ranking artistic personalities and, linked to the soloist ensemble of the Staatstheater am Gärtnerplatz, will take on performances in small and medium-sized roles.

After two years in the studio, our goal is to send the young singers and pianists far beyond the Bavarian region into the world of music theater stages.
