Since 2004, Kammeroper München has stood for sophisticated musical theater of a special kind. With its versions of well-known works and rarities from opera literature, it has earned a permanent place in Munich's cultural life.
In 20 opera productions, Kammeroper München has brought works by Rossini, Mozart and Salieri as well as its own creations by Dominik Wilgenbus such as the pasticcio “Kaspar Hauser” with music by Schubert to the stage. The operetta “Charley’s Aunt,” which premiered in 2014 and has already had more than 60 performances in German-speaking countries, is also one of the chamber opera’s outstanding repertoire pieces.
The audience-oriented directing and stage concepts as well as the unusual musical arrangements by Alexander Krampe characterize the imaginative productions. The focus is on the exceptional vocal and dramatic quality of the young singers, so that the Munich opera ensemble has now become a forum for the promotion of young talent. After Nabil Shehata, who was musical director of the Munich Chamber Opera from 2011 to 2018, Johanna Soller has been shaping the ensemble's special sound since 2019.
In addition to major stage works, concert evenings and portraits of composers by, among others, Rossini, Haydn, Mozart and Schubert are regularly shown with the participation of well-known artists such as Michaela May, Christine Ostermayer, Brigitte Hobmeier, Thomas Loibl, Gerd Anthoff, August Zirner, Friedrich von Thun and Lisa Wagner. Musical highlights also include concert projects with singers such as Juliane Banse, Waltraud Meier, Robert Gambill, Günther Groissböck, Daniel Behle and Okka von der Damerau.
