The mission of the Barcelona Festival of Song® is to preserve and promote Latin American and Iberian art song repertoire. Its centerpiece is a summer program for classical singers, collaborative pianists, and musicologists devoted to studying the history and interpretation of the art song repertoires in Spanish, Catalan, and Portuguese.
With this mission, we want to contribute to decolonizing the curriculum of classical singers until now, almost exclusively centered around Central European music, ignoring the majority of the world´s musical heritage.
We aim to provide singers with the tools to approach the Iberian and Latin American repertoire accurately; our curriculum offers vocal literature and history classes, Spanish, Catalan, and Portuguese diction, and several hours of masterclasses.
Our curriculum is designed to train a well-rounded singer who has all the necessary tools to achieve accurate interpretations; it includes vocal literature and history classes, Spanish, Catalan, and Portuguese diction, and several hours of masterclasses to perform the music. All participants perform in two public concerts at beautiful venues in the heart of Barcelona.
We aim to provide personalized attention; for this reason, we only accept a small group of selected singers every year. One of our unique offerings is that each of the participants at the Festival has their personalized development program designed around their unique abilities, level of development, and goals. The goal is to reinforce their strengths and identify and overcome their weaknesses.
Our program is designed for voice students and voice teachers; therefore, there is no age limit. We are happy to receive university teachers. Our goal is to provide them with all the necessary information to be able in the future to guide their students about available resources, repertory, diction, etc.
We hope you join us in Barcelona and start performing and promoting the vibrant Latin American and Iberian vocal repertoire.
