Description

Open exclusively to students and former students of HEMU – Haute École de Musique and dedicated to lyrical singing, the Kattenburg Competition was created in 2017 in memory of Claire and Willy Kattenburg, a Dutch couple who died in Lausanne in March 2012. Very attached to the Vaudois capital, these philanthropic industrialists were great friends of the arts. Born Tauber, Willy Kattenburg's mother passed on her passion for music to her son and encouraged him to take singing lessons in his native Vienna. It is therefore in a form of continuity that the Kattenburg Competition is part of today, of which they are the posthumous donors through the Foundation which bears their name.

Three editions, in 2017, 2019 and 2022, have already allowed the public to discover the professionalism and exceptional skills of the competitors, notably through the final test with orchestra on the prestigious stage of the Lausanne Opera. The competition, which will be renewed in the fall of 2024, will highlight the exceptional talent of HEMU students and alumni during the semi-finals at the BCV Concert Hall, as well as during the grand final at the Opéra de Lausanne which will also be broadcast on Espace 2.
